[This] book chronologically traces the most significant points of encounter between the history of the Jewish people and the history of medicine. It includes 11 essays on such topics as ‘Healing in Jewish Lore and Law,’ ‘Jewish Folk Medicine’ and ‘Jewish Women in Medicine.’ Sprinkled with full-color pictures of manuscripts, posters, postcards, photographs, and sketches taken from Beth Hatefutsoth, the Nahum Goldman Museum of the Jewish Diaspora in Israel, this work examines two questions: Does Judaism in itself foster a special attitude toward medicine? To what extent did life in the Diaspora influence the Jewish contribution to medicine?
